Tales of the Road-Highway 61: Another Journey is the sequel to journalist Cathy Wurzer’s award-winning public television documentary. Viewers take a return trip down Minnesota’s Highway 61 to explore new stories of the famous, infamous and quirky places and people that have made it an iconic route.  It’s history…worth repeating!

Highway 61 is a road most Minnesotans have traveled and while the route is a familiar one, the history along nearly every mile of it is not.

In 2009, in a first-of-its-kind documentary for Twin Cities Public Television, journalist and filmmaker Cathy Wurzer took viewers on a historic 440 mile trip from Grand Portage to LaCrescent, Minnesota in a vintage 1946 Cadillac.

The film was a hit. So was the companion book that Wurzer wrote for the Minnesota Historical Society Press.

The book and the documentary explored the secrets of places long gone along the highway and the people associated with them. The documentary was honored with several Emmy Awards and a national Golden Cine Award. The book was also an award winner and a regional best seller.

Because so many great stories couldn’t be included in the first documentary, a second one is in production for broadcast on Twin Cities Public Television with exclusive web-only content.

The host of the program, Cathy Wurzer, is the perfect person to take viewers down Highway 61. She is a native of Minnesota, and a well- known face and voice to residents across the Upper Midwest thanks to a successful career in public and commercial broadcast media.

Cathy hopes you’ll join her on another journey down Highway 61 via social media. Follow the trip on Twitter: twitter.com/talesoftheroad and on Facebook: facebook.com/talesoftheroad.
