Storyboard Camp (ages 14-17)
Starts July 10
Monday–Friday, July 10–14, 12–4 pm
Great films start with great storyboards. In this camp, we will learn how to design to tell your story in the best way possible. What does it take to make your audience feel how you want them to feel? Learn the tricks that engage your audience by understanding the principles of film storytelling and how to visually develop your story on a storyboard. Students will create a storyboard for a short film, receive instruction on using video and/or photo editing software on iMacs to turn that storyboard into an animatic (animated storyboard), and upload it to the web. Students should bring a short script (1-3 pages) to the first session to develop into a storyboard. No prior drawing skills required. Please bring earbuds or headphones for computer time.
Carlos Merino is a full-time storyboard artist. He has worked in many different genres for short films, animated series, video games, and commercials. He started as an art director in Spain for various animation studios and co-published “Gutter,” an award-winning comic anthology. Carlos has directed an animated series produced by universities in Spain and Mexico. He currently works as a board artist for an Amazon original show and teaches storyboarding, visual narrative, and animation to college students. Camp Registration Guidelines & Cancellation Policy
- Registration deadlines are listed with camp descriptions (click on camp title). You may register online, in person at IFP MN, or by phone with a credit card at 651.644.1912. Space is assigned on a first-come basis. Registrations must include payment in full to be valid. Completing the online registration form without payment DOES NOT reserve a place in a camp. Registrations are accepted beyond registration deadlines as long as space is available.
- If minimum enrollment has not been reached by 5 days prior to the start date of a camp, IFP MN may cancel it, in which case registrants will immediately be notified and receive a full refund by PayPal or charge card credit (for phone or in person credit card registrations) within 5 business days. A check will be issued for registrations that were paid in cash. In lieu of a refund, students have the option of applying their tuition to another camp if scheduled in the same calendar year.
- For those wishing to cancel a registration prior to the registration deadline, 100% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $25 administrative fee. For registration cancellations received after the registration deadline but prior to the first camp session, 50% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $25 administrative fee. As of a camp start date, no refunds or credits/exchanges will be given.
- Tuition is not prorated for missed camp sessions.
